American Graffiti
Since I’ve moved back to the city, I’ve noticed a steady decline in the quality of graffiti. My view is, if you can’t do it right, don’t do it at all. Growing up, I saw some very high-quality works of art spray-painted on various buildings and under/over passes. But now? I’m disappointed. We are allowing sub-par tagging to go on and no one is saying anything about it. I had a flicker of hope when I saw some new tagging on a bridge. It wasn’t up to typical graffiti standards, but it was good. It even incorporated color. But a couple weeks later, they were painting over it. Why? Why did they choose to paint over that particular graffiti, yet leave others that were no where near as good? It’s a dying art I suppose, one that I would like to see rejuvenated.
1 Comments:
Perhaps the "poor" grafitti is actually a more dangerous gang-related form of tagging.
Gangs aren't usually about the "art" in life.
Or maybe I have gangs all wrong...
